Crazy Drivers…

September 1st, 2008

Saturday, August 30th, my wife and I celebrated my 62nd birthday by driving to spend the afternoon and evening with my sister and brother-in-law, and my parents in Sun City, AZ. The round-trip was about 82 miles, and I have never seen so many drivers in an hour’s time who were aparently not able to control their cars or inept, or oblivious to the need to share the road with the rest of the population. They were weaving, crossing the lines, changing lanes without signaling, hugging the shoulder — over the line, and making abrupt movements which were potentially dangerous to the masses, almost as if they hadn’t considered anyone else on the road. To top it off, there was quite a bit of rain and the roads were wet and slippery. I couldn’t believe it, and I didn’t see one police officer all afternoon. I travel the roads daily during my commute on I-10 here in Phoenix both to and from work, yet Saturday marked a really spooky day for both Jan and me. Am I just getting old and intolerant, or is there a trend toward more and more rude or obnoxious behavior on the roads today?
